1. Introduce yourself

I’m Farrah Drabu

2. What is your job title?

I run DNR Films. I am an editor, writer, director and actor.

3. Who looks after the kids when you are working?

School and grandparents - although through lockdown it has been predominantly me.

4. How long did you take off work after having your baby?

I think a couple of days or a week - I have not taken any specific time off as I love my work so I wanted to keep going.

5. Would you say that you have a good work/life balance?

Honestly - I am not sure whether I do - as it changes dramatically from week to week depending on what I’m working on and how much a project needs me.

6. Are you job sharing or working flexibly?

I am working as a freelance/flexibly

7. What do you think is the hardest part of being in the media/film/TV industries and being a parent?

The hardest thing is to find work!

8. What are your tips for any other women out there wanting to have kids and keep a career in film?

We can do both! It takes a lot of bravery and self-belief but we can do it! Take comfort in the small human beings you have created, remember that your work doesn’t always need to define your success. Your legacy can also be your children. But also, on the flip side that it is ok to leave the children and keep working- somebody once said to me “the kids won’t thank you for staying home when they are older”. And I think they had a good point! Whatever you choose to do - make sure it is the option you feel the least guilty about!

9. Do you have any advice for anyone returning to work after maternity leave?

My advice for those returning after maternity leave is to go easy on yourself, and try not to feel guilty about anything!

10. What advice did you wish someone had given you?

Don’t be in such a rush to get somewhere - wherever you are going - if you are meant to be there - it will still be there - if it is meant for you.
